The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the leading global organization supporting and empowering people living with multiple sclerosis, is pleased to announce the appointment of Paul Zimmerman as Chief Legal Officer.“Paul brings exceptional knowledge and experience to this role and our leadership team,” said Dr. Tim Coetzee, President and CEO of the National MS Society. “His dedication and passion will be a great contribution to our mission and the MS community.”As Chief Legal Officer, Zimmerman will oversee all aspects of the Society’s legal and risk management strategies. He brings over 30 years of legal experience across global nonprofits, federal agencies, and mission-driven organizations.Most recently, Zimmerman was at Management Sciences for Health, a global public health nonprofit, where he led the legal function, provided strategic counsel to the Board and executive leadership, and built a legal team that supported the organization’s operations.Prior to joining the National MS Society, he served as General Counsel at the Inter-American Foundation and held senior roles at Playworks DC, The Nature Conservancy, the U.S. Department of Justice, and the Peace Corps.Zimmerman has a passion for mission-driven organizations. While in law school he also founded a student-run non-profit – Brooklyn Law Students for the Public Interest (BLSPI )– which encourages student participation in public interest legal work serving underrepresented communities and individuals. BLSPI continues to work as a student-run nonprofit today. He holds a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School and a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University.
