These last few months have marked one of the most energizing times of my career. I was drawn to multiple sclerosis as a researcher, studying how fat molecules contribute to the insulating role of myelin in the brain. This set me on the path to join the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a staff member. Today I have the privilege of leading the Society as president and CEO. As a scientist, I learned failure is required to make progress. Every breakthrough is only made possible because of the trial and error that precedes it.Like any organization, we’ve faced challenges. But we work together to come out better and stronger. It’s how we make progress. Life is materially better for many people with MS than it was when our organization began in 1946. That is something we can all be proud of. And we can all agree it isn’t enough.MS ends with each one of us doing what we can — to expand our reach, make new discoveries, raise funds and support everyone affected by this disease.Imagine a future where someone experiencing an unusual symptom visits their doctor and that doctor knows to check for MS. Imagine that diagnosis is as simple as a quick blood test. No more guesses, no more uncertainty — just immediate answers and a path forward.Imagine after detecting MS early, this person has a clear treatment plan tailored just for them — whatever type of MS they have. No barriers. Just a straightforward, affordable path to managing their health and living fully. Imagine, throughout their journey, this person has a dedicated guide — someone who knows the ins and outs of MS and is there to support them every step of the way. Someone who not only addresses their current challenges but also helps them prepare for what lies ahead.Imagine an MS diagnosis is no longer something to fear — because there’s a cure. Imagine if, with that cure, people could reclaim everything they lost. A future where MS is simply a chapter they close, as they confidently move on with their lives.MS ends with us. P.S.
