Kristen Krysko, MD, a neurologist, researcher, and clinician, is the winner of the 2025 Rachel Horne Prize for Women’s Research in MS. She is being honored for her important work in guiding the care and treatment of women with MS throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dr. Krysko is a neurologist at the BARLO MS Centre at St. Michael’s Hospital, where she established a women's health and pregnancy MS clinical and research program. She is also an Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto in Canada. Her research centers on women’s health in MS, exploring how pregnancy impacts the disease, how to best manage treatments during this time, and the safety of MS therapies before, during, and after pregnancy, including while breastfeeding. Early in her career, she was supported by a Sylvia Lawry Physician Fellowship Award from the National MS Society. Dr. Marwa Kaisey, Chair of International Women in MS (iWiMS) which oversees the award’s review and judging process, noted that “Her pioneering research on women’s health in MS, especially around pregnancy and childbirth, is already shaping how we counsel and care for women with MS, with the potential to transform quality of life for countless families.” Dr. Krysko will receive the award at the 41st Congress of the European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis (ECTRIMS) in Barcelona, Spain later this month.
